Nathan Eovaldi pulled from no-hit bid in DL return

Nathan Eovaldi

Nathan Eovaldi was pulled from a no-hit bid on Wednesday night for precautionary purposes.

Eovaldi was activated from the 60-day DL on Wednesday to make his return from Tommy John surgery. His return was almost as good as it gets.

Eovaldi walked one and did not allow a hit over six scoreless innings for the Tampa Bay Rays against the Oakland A’s. He was pulled after throwing 70 pitches, 46 of which were strikes.

Considering that the 28-year-old has had two Tommy John surgeries and was just making his long-awaited return to action, the precaution from Tampa Bay makes complete sense. They don’t want to damage someone who could be good trade bait this season.

Eovaldi has a 4.23 ERA and 38-46 record for his career.
