Report: Pablo Sandoval will not return to Giants, likely to sign with Red Sox
Pablo Sandoval has won his last championship with the San Francisco Giants, according to at least one reporter.
Dennis O’Donnell of KPIX 5 reports that there is a 90% chance Sandoval will sign with the Boston Red Sox and a 10% chance he signs with the Blue Jays. O’Donnell’s sources claim the Giants have offered Sandoval a five-year, $90 million deal. That is the contract he was reportedly seeking last spring, but the Giants chose to wait it out.
Sandoval has reportedly asked for seven years from San Francisco. The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox are preparing an offer for Sandoval. The 28-year-old had nothing but positive things to say about Beantown after his visit to the city on Tuesday.
The belief is that Sandoval may have no intention of returning to San Francisco after the Giants refused to pay him last spring. While he is supposedly asking the Giants for seven years, he may be willing to sign a six-year deal with Boston. The Red Sox could use him at third base for the next few years and move him to designated hitter when David Ortiz retires.
