Phil Hughes sends farewell note on Twitter after being DFAd by Padres
Phil Hughes sent a farewell note on Twitter after being dropped by the San Diego Padres on Friday.
The Padres designated Hughes for assignment to clear a roster spot for Jacob Nix. After being dropped by San Diego, the Southern California native said it was an “honor” to play for the Padres.
Huge thank you to everyone I had the pleasure of working with in San Diego. It was an honor to wear the uniform of the team I grew up watching. While my time as a Padre was short, I’ll always be your twitter king

Hughes had a 6.10 ERA in 20.2 innings with the Padres. The Twins are paying the remainder of his salary for 2018, but San Diego will owe him $7 million of the $13.2 million he is set to earn next season.
Since 2016, Hughes has not posted an ERA under 5.87.
