Phillies acquire Asdrubal Cabrera in trade with Mets

Asdrubal Cabrera bat flip

The Philadelphia Phillies made a big upgrade to their roster on Friday.

The Phillies acquired Asdrubal Cabrera in a trade with the New York Mets. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal says the Phillies are trading pitcher Franklyn Kilome in return. The deal is pending physicals.

Cabrera has played second base for the Mets but is versatile and can play multiple infield positions. The 32-year-old is batting .277 with 18 homers and an .817 OPS this season. He would serve as a boost over Cesar Hernandez at second. They’d be even better off he could play shortstop for them.

Kilome, 23, is a pitcher from the Dominican Republic. The right-hander has a 4.24 ERA in 102 innings in Double-A this season with 83 strikeouts.
