Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson offered some classy comments after his team lost Game 7 of the NLCS 4-2 to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday night.

The Phillies left their home park up 2-0 in the series. Then they left Arizona up 3-2 in the series, needing to just win one at home to advance to the World Series. Instead, they lost Games 6 and 7, allowing Arizona to move on.

Though Thomson was devastated by his team coming up short of a championship again, he showed class in his postgame interview with TBS’ Matt Winer. Thomson shared great praise for what Arizona accomplished.

“You got to tip your cap to ’em. They played their game when they came back here. To come into this building, and beat us in this atmosphere — twice — it’s an accomplishment. And you tip your cap,” Thomson said.

He’s absolutely right. The Diamondbacks won Games 6 and 7 in arguably the toughest visitor’s atmosphere in MLB. They earned their berth to the World Series. And Thomson wasn’t immediately bitter, but rather, he was complimentary.
