The Pittsburgh Pirates are open to the possibility of trading Oneil Cruz.

MLB.com reporter Mark Feinsand reported on Wednesday night that teams have reached out to the Pirates to inquire about Cruz. Feisand says the team will listen to trade inquiries for Cruz. The Pirates reportedly are not prioritizing trading the shortstop/center fielder, but it sounds like they would be open to a trade if the right offer came along.

Some teams have reached out to Pittsburgh about Oneil Cruz, but a source said that while the Pirates will listen, they’re not prioritizing such a move. The source called a Cruz deal “unlikely.” Sounds like Pittsburgh would have to be absolutely bowled over by an offer.

Cruz is a highly desirable trade target for many teams. He is 6-foot-7, 240 pounds, and he has great tools such as speed and the ability to generate some of the hardest hit balls in MLB. More importantly to interested teams, Cruz is under team control through the 2028 season.

Cruz is batting .215 with a .735 OPS this season, which is the lowest batting average of his career. He does have 31 stolen bases though, which is a career high. His play in recent months has led to some questions about whether he is trying to get the Pirates to trade him.
