Boston Red Sox slugger Rafael Devers has started to come alive following his historically bad start to the season, and he has finally had an opportunity to experience his team’s new home run celebration.
Devers ripped an opposite-field home run during the bottom of the fifth inning of Sunday’s game between the Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass. The solo shot gave Boston a 2-1 lead.
When Devers returned to the dugout after rounding the bases, his teammates were waiting to congratulate him. Devers was given the “Wally the Green Monster” head to wear.

Wally is the Red Sox’s mascot. The team started the Wally head celebration after home runs this season, and it has quickly become popular.
Devers, of course, was nowhere close to experiencing the new celebration through the first five games of the year. He went 0-for-19 during that stretch with 15 strikeouts. One insane stat helped sum up how lost Devers was.
Devers has started to heat up over the past few days, and it is a good sign that he drove the ball to the opposite field on Sunday. He seems to finally be coming out of his slump and adjusting to the big change he had to make this season.
