The Boston Red Sox got a head start on the trade action by sending young pitcher Connelly Early to the Washington Nationals in exchange for third baseman Curtis Mead.
On Monday, Mead made his Red Sox debut against the Athletics, but he was removed from the game in the fourth inning after being hit by a pitch.
On Tuesday, the Red Sox called up Nick Sogard, and a report came right after stating that Mead suffered a broken wrist.

Alex Speier of The Boston Globe also added that Mead was headed to the IL, although the Red Sox had not made any formal announcement at the time of publication.

Mead spent time with the Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago White Sox before joining the Nationals in 2026. This season, he hit .254 with 17 home runs and 48 RBIs before being traded, and Boston was hoping he could be a boost to the lineup.
Instead, Mead will miss significant time.
