Reese McGuire got ejected for arguing a call during his Chicago Cubs’ game against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, and it turns out he was wrong about the call.
McGuire was catching for relief pitcher Nate Pearson in the top of the 9th inning as his Cubs were losing 14-6 to the Mariners at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Ill. Pearson threw a 3-1 pitch to Miles Mastrobuoni that went outside for ball four, giving Mastrobuoni the walk. McGuire was not happy about it.
The Cubs catcher began shaking his head in disbelief over the call. He then took off his mask and said something to home plate umpire Edwin Moscoso, who ejected him.

McGuire seemed surprised about the ejection, but it turned out he was completely wrong. Pearson’s pitch to Mastrobuoni was outside and was a ball, so Moscoso got it correct.
With his team losing 14-6, it’s easy to understand why McGuire was frustrated. But he may feel somewhat embarrassed after learning he was wrong. McGuire did go 1-for-4 at the plate with a solo home run prior to his ejection.
