Report: Byron Buxton played with crack rib during wild-card game
Byron Buxton’s reason for exiting Tuesday’s American League wild-card game was reportedly a bit more serious than was initially thought.
During the second inning of the Twins’ loss to the Yankees, Buxton made a leaping grab to rob Todd Frazier of extra bases before crashing hard into the outfield wall. You can see the play below.

Buxton remained in the game. However, prior to the bottom of the fourth inning, he was taken out in favor of Zack Granite with what the club called back tightness.
Twins say that Buxton felt his back tightness manifest on a swing subsequent to crashing into the wall, and on his stolen base.

The Pioneer Press is now reporting Buxton suffered a cracked rib. Buxton is not expected to have any lasting effects from the injury, but it certainly does why he was not able to continue playing.
