Report: Rich Hill, wife arrested at Gillette Stadium before Patriots game
Free agent pitcher Rich Hill was arrested Saturday along with his wife at Gillette Stadium ahead of the New England Patriots’ game against the Buffalo Bills.
According to John R. Ellement of the Boston Globe, Hill’s wife Caitlin tried to enter the stadium with an oversized bag. After failing to do so at different entrances, she refused to leave when ordered to do so. Rich Hill intervened and tried to stop officers from putting his wife in a police vehicle, which led to his own arrest.
“He saw her as they were trying to get her into a van to bring to the police station, and he started to interfere with the officers,” Robert Bolger of the Foxborough police told the Globe. “He was told several times to back up and he would not. And he ended up getting arrested.”
Hill was charged with intimidation of police, while Caitlin was charged with disorderly conduct and trespassing, via Nick O’Malley of MassLive. The charges were changed to criminal infractions on Monday. Both Hills were fined $500 per infraction, while Rich Hill’s intimidation of police charge was dropped.
Rich Hill last pitched for the Dodgers, where he posted a 2.45 ERA in 13 starts last year. The 39-year-old is currently a free agent, having pitched for various other teams, most notably the Cubs and Red Sox. He’s known for being a pretty intense competitor when he’s on the mound, too, for better or worse.
