Warren Schaeffer may just have a future on Broadway if the whole manager thing does not work out for him.
The Colorado Rockies interim manager Schaeffer produced an incredibly theatrical ejection during Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers. In the third inning at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisc., Rockies outfielder Tyler Freeman took an 0-2 pitch from Milwaukee’s Chad Patrick.
Freeman thought that the pitch was low, but home plate umpire Ramon De Jesus rang him up with the called third strike. After the strikeout call, Freeman turned and said something to De Jesus, who immediately ejected him.
That led to Schaeffer storming out of the Rockies dugout with smoke billowing out of his nostrils. He got into De Jesus’ face and emphatically threw down both his cap and the gum that was in his mouth. Schaeffer then got in a dramatic crouching position over the plate to demonstrate how seemingly low the pitch from Patrick was (also getting ejected himself over the display).

In De Jesus’ defense, the pitch did appear to clip the bottom of the zone and was way too close for Freeman to be taking on an 0-2 count regardless. But it looks like Schaeffer mainly took exception to how quick De Jesus was to throw out his guy in Freeman.
Schaeffer, 40, took over last month after the Rockies decided to fire manager Bud Black. Colorado has gone 11-32 thus far in Schaeffer’s tenure. But you at least have to give him props for that entertaining ejection, especially the gum throw that was straight out of the book of Aaron Boone.
