Rockies reportedly still deeply involved in talks for Mark Trumbo
The Colorado Rockies may not be done spending just yet.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports on Thursday, the Rockies remain “deeply involved” in talks for free agent slugger Mark Trumbo, just one day after agreeing to a five-year, $70 million deal with Ian Desmond.

Trumbo, 30, hit .256/.316/.533 with an MLB-leading 47 home runs and 108 RBIs for the Baltimore Orioles in 2016. Adding a monster bat like that to Coors Field sounds like something out of a testerone-fueled fever dream, but Trumbo’s defensive shortcomings would be exposed by a move to the National League without the convenience of a designated hitter position to hide behind. As such, we’ll see just how willing Colorado is to go for broke this offseason.
