Rod Barajas found missing World Series ring in wife’s shoe … four years later

Rod BarajasThe story of Rod Barajas’ missing World Series ring has a happy ending.

Barajas, 37, saw his first regular action as a big leaguer with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001 — the year the team beat the New York Yankees in the World Series. Even though he only batted .160 in 51 games as a backup catcher that season, Barajas went 2-for-5 with a home run in the thrilling seven-game series.

Barajas cherished the World Series ring he won that season, and he even got a pendant made for his wife, Stacie. But Barajas thought the ring and pendant had been lost in a move.

According to MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert, Barajas and his wife moved from Arizona to San Diego four years ago. The catcher wanted to wear his ring that offseason, but he was unable to find it. When the couple bought a home and brought their belongings out of storage, Barajas thought he would be able to find the treasured items. He had no luck.

Believing the ring and pendant to be lost, Barajas even considered buying a replacement ring from the jeweler who made them. It wasn’t until a sad family moment recently that the jewelry was finally recovered.

Stacie’s grandmother, with whom she was close, died last week at the age of 93. Barajas left spring training to attend the funeral in Northern California. His wife tried on a shoe she hadn’t worn in a while, decided it fit, and packed the pair for the trip. When they were at the hotel getting ready for the funeral, Stacie put on the other shoe and noticed there was something blocking her foot. It turned out to be the lost ring and pendant!

Barajas told Gilbert he believes that was one last gift Stacie’s grandmother gave them.

That’s a much better way to come across a missing ring than the way this guy did. Barajas is battling for the backup catcher job with the Diamondbacks.
