Ronald Acuña Jr. makes the throw of the year

Ronald Acuna making a throw from right field

Ronald Acuña Jr. started off the second half of the MLB season with a bang on Friday.

The Atlanta Braves star Acuña made the most staggering outfield throw of the year against the New York Yankees at Truist Field in Atlanta, Ga. Acuña was manning right field in the third inning with Yankees runners on first and second and one away.

Yankees first baseman Cody Bellinger golfed one towards the right field corner, and Acuña was successfully able to track it down for the out. Infielder Jorbit Vivas, the lead runner for the Yankees, attempted to advance on the deep fly ball and should have made it into third base easily.

However, Acuña had some other plans. Doing his best Jose Guillen impression, Acuña did a half-turn and fired an absolute dart into the bag at third. The ball somehow hit teammate Nacho Alvarez Jr. on the fly, and Vivas (perhaps expecting to waltz into third like a Sunday stroll) somehow failed to slide and was tagged out.

Here is the unbelievable play.

It was a very productive all-around game as well for Acuña, who also had an RBI double, a triple, and a walk on the evening. The Braves went on to easily beat the Yankees by a 7-3 final score.

While recovering from his torn ACL, the former NL MVP Acuña did not make his season debut for the Braves until late May (and made some negative headlines during his absence). But now that Acuña is back at full speed, he is doing what he does best again — producing jaw-dropping highlights on the field.
