Report: Royals fielding trade calls about Wade Davis
The Kansas City Royals may be considering trading one of their biggest assets.
According to Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball, closer Wade Davis is available for the right price, with the team poised to pick up his $10 million option for 2017.
Heyman also says the Royals would consider trading high-priced players such as Alex Gordon or Ian Kennedy, but a rival GM said that they would be unlikely to get much in return without taking on a comparably sizable contract.
Davis would be a free agent after 2017, but he’d be very affordable for a year if a team wished to acquire him.
The Royals entertained the notion of dealing Davis at the trade deadline, possibly in a package like what Heyman opined about. Davis will be very expensive when he hits free agency, so it would not be a shock for the Royals, who are a lower budget team, to get something in return for him while they can.
