Report: Royals still getting Johnny Cueto despite snag

Johnny-Cueto

The Kansas City Royals are already the best team in the American League, and they are about to get even better with the acquisition of Cincinnati Reds right-hander Johnny Cueto.

The Royals were on the verge of trading for Cueto on Saturday night when discussions hit a snag. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported that the deal fell through when one of the players who was going to Cincinnati from Kansas City did not check out medically. Reds pitcher Michael Lorenzen even began warming up close to game time in case Cueto was scratched from his start, but Cueto ended up tossing eight shutout innings.

On Sunday, Rosenthal reported that the Royals are still getting Cueto.

Kansas City has the best record in the AL at 58-38. Cueto, 29, is 7-6 this season and ranks in the top 10 among National League starters with a 2.62 ERA. He should help set the defending AL champions up for another strong postseason run.
