Report: Royals currently have ‘no chance’ of retaining Alex Gordon

With each passing day, it looks less and less likely that Alex Gordon will remain with the Kansas City Royals.

According to CBS Sports’s Jon Heyman, the Royals have been told that as things stand, they have “no chance” of retaining their left fielder.

The Royals have an offer on the table to Gordon, said to be 4 years and in the range of $12 million per year. Gordon, it is said, is seeking closer to $20 million annually, and has drawn a good amount of interest from other teams.

This backs the recent report that the two parties have a sizable gap in negotiations. Even at the beginning of the offseason, the chances of Gordon leaving were considered to be pretty good. Owner David Glass simply isn’t willing to open up the checkbook, it seems, not even for a cornerstone of the franchise like Gordon.
