Sandy Alderson collapses while announcing Terry Collins contract extension

Sandy-Alderson

A frightening incident took place at Citi Field Wednesday afternoon when New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson collapsed during a meeting with the media to announce manager Terry Collins’ two-year contract extension.

According to Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal, Alderson turned pale and passed out after he was asked a question about the health of outfielder Juan Lagares. The 67-year-old remained on the floor for about 30 seconds before being helped to his feet and making light of the situation.

“OK, where were we?” Alderson joked before leaving the room under his own power.

A team official informed reporters roughly 20 minutes later that Alderson said he had not eaten breakfast Wednesday morning and felt light-headed while sitting under the bright lights at the podium. He was examined by the team’s training staff and deemed to be in good condition.

We’re glad to hear that Alderson, who has had to deal with some stressful situations like this in recent months, appears to have only had a minor scare. Hopefully there are no lingering effects.
