Scary collision leads to inside-the-park home run for Ryan Zimmerman (Video)

Ryan Zimmerman hit an inside-the-park home run against the Marlins on Sunday, but what led to it could have had disastrous results for Miami.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Zimmerman came up to bat with the Nationals down 2-0. With a full count, Zimmerman hit a line drive off of Jose Fernandez that headed to the gap in right field. Racing towards the ball, Marcell Ozuna and Giancarlo Stanton each tried to make the catch when they collided, sending both to the ground.

Thankfully, both players were able to remain in the game. In his next plate appearance, Stanton hit his 11th home run of the season. Two batters later, Ozuna singled to extend his hitting streak to 15 games.

Stanton is the Marlins’ best player while Ozuna is looking to put together the best season of his young career. Losing either, or both, on the play would have put a damper on a 20-17 start to the season. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case.
