Blue Jays outfielder Chris Colabello was hit in the helmet by a Steven Wright fastball on Sunday, and the Red Sox pitcher went above and beyond in his apology.
Wright sent Colabello a large bottle of liquor to atone for his accidental beanball.
“Steven decided that he was going to send over a gift,” Colabello said Monday via the Associated Press as he showed reporters the liquor. “He didn’t have to. I’m sure that’s not cheap, too.

“He went above and beyond in my eyes. It was pretty obvious there was no intent. You could see by his reaction.”
Colabello said that pitchers sending gifts to players they hit is more common than you might think.
“[It] happens more than people know,” Colabello said. “You build relationships with people.”
It’s a pretty cool practice, and a neat move on Wright’s part. But does it happen when your own teammates are drilling each other in the head? Perhaps Colabello can shed some light on that.
