Mets reliever Tim Byrdak is an unbelievable bowler

Relief pitchers often have trouble finding consistency in their careers. They typically sign a one or two-year deal with a team and bounce around numerous times. The Mets are the fifth team reliever Tim Byrdak has played for in his ten-year career. The good news for Byrdak is if he gets tired of bouncing around the MLB, he can always become a professional bowler.

According to the NY Daily News, Byrdak nearly bowled a perfect score at a team bonding event on Sunday night.

Byrdak matched a personal best by rolling a 279 in his third game of the night, throwing eight straight strikes before settling for a spare in the ninth frame and then finishing with three more strikes. Toward the end of Byrdak’s final game, other Mets crowded around his lane to cheer him on, according to a team spokesman.

Afterward, Byrdak said, “Next offseason, I’m thinking about trying out for the Professional Bowlers Association tour,” the spokesman said.

Between the second and third game, Byrdak threw 14 consecutive strikes. He finished Game 2 with a score of 238.

Where has this Byrdak guy been hiding? Based on what we’ve learned and seen over the past week, he may be one of the most interesting men in baseball. First he pulls off the Hulk Hogan impersonation to perfection at Mets training camp, and now he happens to be a phenomenal bowler. Considering the current state of the Mets, Byrdak’s should be the most sought-after autograph on New York’s other team.
