Tim Lincecum’s agent says Padres have been ‘very active’ in pursuit

Tim-Lincecum-John-Smoltz

The San Diego Padres are “very active” on Tim Lincecum, who remains a free agent several weeks after spring training started.

Lincecum’s agent, Rick Thurman, divulged that information on Monday speaking to The Mighty 1090 in San Diego.

“They’ve been very active on Tim,” Thurman said of the Padres, via Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune. “I don’t know that he’s got any affinity to any particular club. I haven’t really discussed that with him. I know that he loves the West Coast. He’s discussed the Padres with me. He’s definitely got interest if they have interest in him. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Lincecum, who had hip surgery in September, is expected to hold a showcase for teams within the next two weeks.

“He’s really been focusing on getting ready for the season and preparing for the season,” Thurman said. “This is really like his spring training right now. As soon as he’s ready, we’ll have a showcase.”

Lincecum has been throwing in an undisclosed location to prep for his showcase and the season as a whole. He’s a two-time Cy Young winner and still only 31, but he hasn’t put together a legitimately good campaign since 2011, when he posted a 2.74 ERA.
