Torii Hunter was officially reintroduced as a member of the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. Believe it or not, there were some heated moments during his press conference.
On a day when everyone was expected to be all smiles with Hunter returning to the place where his MLB career began, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press decided to ask Hunter about his views on gay marriage.
Hunter became visibly irritated while answering the non-baseball questions. After he made it clear that he would talk about ethical and political issues after he was done playing baseball, he unloaded on Berardino.
“Hey Mike is kind of a prick, huh?” Hunter asked the other reporters in the room. “No, seriously, you’re a prick man. I don’t even know you — a prick, seriously. Ain’t nothing wrong with that, it’s your job. He’s definitely a prick, though.”
Two years ago, Hunter infamously stated that he would be uncomfortable with a gay teammate because of his Christian views. He has also said that he would support political candidates who share the same views as him. Hunter later tried to claim he was misquoted.
