Trey Mancini has chosen to become a free agent after raking in Triple-A for the Arizona Diamondbacks’ franchise.

Mancini, who was a member of the 2022 Houston Astros’ World Series team, was playing for the Reno Aces this season. He had batted .308 with an .895 OPS including 16 doubles and 16 home runs over 74 games for the Triple-A team. However, the Diamondbacks have both Josh Naylor and Pavin Smith at first base, which didn’t leave a path for Mancini to play. As a result, Mancini decided to become a free agent.

Trey Mancini exercised his opt-out with the Arizona Diamondbacks and is now a free agent, source tells @TheAthletic. Batted .363 with nine homers, 26 RBIs and a 1.125 OPS for Triple A Reno in June – impressive numbers, even in a hitter-friendly environment.

Mancini joins Alex Verdugo, who was designated for assignment on Wednesday, as players whom teams might have interest in.

Mancini, 33, has slugged 129 career home runs in the bigs, including 83 over his first three seasons from 2017-2019.

Mancini missed the 2020 season while recovering from colon cancer. He returned and had some success in 2021 and 2022, but did not play last season. Now Mancini is hoping to catch on somewhere that he can get back to the majors.
