Victor Robles commits error in ALCS Game 1

The Seattle Mariners are generally a top defensive team, but they made a blunder during Game 1 of the ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday night.

Anthony Santander was batting for the Jays with his team leading 1-0 with one out in the bottom of the second inning at Rogers Centre in Toronto. He ripped a line drive to right field, and Victor Robles misplayed the ball, allowing it to bounce past him. Santander wound up on second base thanks to the error.

Robles seemed to be unprepared for the hit as he still had his note card on defensive shifts in his mouth when he tried to make the play. Bryce Miller was able to retire the next two batters, so Robles giving Santander the extra base did not hurt the team. Still, you don’t want to be making errors like that ever, let alone in the ALCS.

The Mariners probably had to pass along a message to him about using his defensive note card better.
