Justin Verlander was visibly emotional during his return to the mound at Comerica Park in Detroit.
Verlander spent the first 12 full seasons of his major league career with the Detroit Tigers. Prior to last year’s trade deadline, he was traded to the Houston Astros, with whom he went on to win the World Series. On Monday, Verlander made his first start as a visitor in Detroit and he was welcomed by a warm reception from the crowd as well as a tribute video.

Verlander’s accomplishments while with the Tigers are certainly notable. He won the American League MVP and Cy Young Awards as a member of the franchise. Verlander also led the league in strikeouts four times while with the Tigers. Verlander was a fan favorite during his time in Detroit and he was shown just how much on Monday.
