Report: White Sox likely to keep Jose Abreu through trade deadline

It does not appear that Jose Abreu will be the latest casualty of the Chicago White Sox’s roster teardown.

Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports reported on Saturday that the White Sox are now “strongly inclined” to keep the Cuban first baseman through the Jul. 31 deadline instead of trading him away.

Abreu, 31, is one of Chicago’s most attractive trade chips and just made his second career All-Star team after hitting 13 home runs and 52 RBIs in the first half. The White Sox are also having another toilet bowl season at 33-63 (third-worst in the league) and have dealt away a horde of talent (including Chris Sale, Adam Eaton, Todd Frazier, and Jose Quintana) over the last 20 months.

Despite all that though (as well as recent interest from an elite AL team), the White Sox seem content with keeping their tenured slugger right where he is.
