White Sox misspelled their star acquisition’s name on his locker

The Chicago White Sox had one of their more impactful offseasons in recent memory. Unfortunately, they have not quite gotten off on the right foot for spring training.

Munetaka Murakami, Chicago’s new slugging acquisition, shared a photo Monday showing the nameplate of his spring training locker. There was just one problem: the team misspelled his first name as Munetaki instead of Munetaka.

Judging by the laughing emoji on his Instagram post, Murakami was not actually upset by the error. Those who think the White Sox aren’t a serious organization got some additional fodder, though.

On the other hand, Murakami delivered an unusual demand after signing with the White Sox, but it was one they accommodated. That is probably more important than a minor error on a locker nameplate.

Murakami won Japan’s hitting Triple Crown in 2022 by batting .318 with 56 home runs and 134 RBIs. In 2025 though, Murakami was limited to 69 total games played due to an oblique injury, hitting .286 with 24 home runs and 52 RBIs overall.
