The Chicago White Sox beat the Cleveland Guardians 5-4 in 11 innings on Friday thanks to the rare walk-off swinging bunt.
The White Sox had runners on the corners with one out and the game tied at 4 in the bottom of the 11th at Rate Field in Chicago, Ill. Mike Tauchman was facing Kolby Allard and hit a weak broken-bat grounder towards shortstop. Allard whiffed on his fielding attempt, which allowed ghost runner Colson Montgomery to score the winning run.

That goes to show that sometimes you don’t need to rip the ball over the fence for a walk-off. Sometimes all you need is a swinging bunt.
That was Tauchman’s only hit of the game, though he did walk twice and score a run. The White Sox have been playing better ball lately, as they’ve gone 4-4 over their last 8 games. That’s not bad for a team that’s 32-63 on the season.
