There is a new World Series favorite

There is a new favorite to win the World Series this year, and it’s not the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers have been favored to win the 2025 World Series ever since the day after they won the 2024 World Series. But after they lost their first two games of a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies at Dodger Stadium this week, BetOnline.ag switched their odds to favor the Phillies to win the World Series.

The Phillies have +475 odds to win the championship, while the Dodgers are second at +525 odds. The Milwaukee Brewers and Toronto Blue Jays are tied behind those two teams at +700, and the surging Seattle Mariners have the fifth-lowest odds at +900.

The rationale for favoring the Phillies came after the team won the series, which put them in position to take home-field advantage in the National League playoffs in a potential series with the Dodgers. The Brewers entered play on Thursday with the best record in the NL, and the Phillies were 2.5 games behind them. The Chicago Cubs, who clinched a playoff spot on Wednesday, also have a better record in the NL than the Dodgers. But the Dodgers still have better odds than either NL Central team for winning the World Series.

The NL has two 90-win teams already, while the American League doesn’t have any. The Blue Jays have 89 wins, while the Tigers and Yankees both have 85 wins. The Yankees made it to the World Series last year before losing to the Dodgers. The Phillies last won the World Series in 2008. They made it to the Fall Classic in 2022 but lost to Houston.
