Report: Yankees willing to eat salary to get good young players for Brian McCann

The New York Yankees want to get younger, and they understand that they might have to take on some salary to do so.

The Yankees are interested in dealing catcher Brian McCann, and according to Yahoo! Sports’s Jeff Passan, they’re willing to eat some of his contract in order to get good young pieces in return.

Sources: Yankees have expressed willingness to pay half of Brian McCann's remaining $34M, but want multiple top young players in return.

Even if the Yankees do take on some salary, it’s a high asking price. McCann is valuable, but not what he once was, having hit .242 with 20 home runs in 2016. Someone will probably take him on, as he drew interest at the trade deadline, but the asking price may prove to be a hindrance.
