Fans pummeled ‘Bonehead’ Aaron Boone over his decision to pitch Nestor Cortes

Aaron Boone looks on

If you were wondering what the heck Aaron Boone was thinking when he brought in Nestor Cortes into a high-pressure situation in Game 1 of the World Series, you are not alone. New York Yankees fans were pummeling the team’s manager after the game over the decision.

The Yankees lost 6-3 in 10 innings to the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on Friday night after Freddie Freeman hit a 2-out walk-off grand slam off Cortes. Boone decided to pitch Cortes in the game even though he hadn’t pitched since September, which is something fans couldn’t believe.

After the move backfired, Yankees fans crushed Boone.

Aaron Boone decided to throw Nestor Cortes who hasn’t thrown a baseball in a month over Tim Hill who had been stellar throughout the entire playoffs

And people ask why fans don’t like him

You bring Nestor in who hasn’t pitched in a month over Tim Hill who has been an absolute dawg in the playoffs. Bonehead Boone back at it again

Cortes, who hasn’t pitched in a month, throwing BP fastballs at 93 in the biggest spot of the year is certainly not what I would have chosen.

Everyone: “Alright, bring in Tim Hill to close out Game 1 with a win.”

The fact that Aaron Boone chose to have Nestor Cortes, a pitcher with almost no relief appearances who also hasn’t pitched in over a month, to face Ohtani, Betts and Freeman is exactly why the Yankees lost that game. Zero excuse to have him pitch there. None. #Yankees

Nestor Cortes hasn’t pitched in 6 weeks. Putting him in this spot is the worst decision Aaron Boone could have made. Simply unbelievable. https://t.co/PdY0k9vlVZ

Maybe Boone missed how good Freeman was against lefties with the bases loaded.

aaron boone intentionally walked betts to load the bases for freddie freeman.

and here are his stats w/ the bases loaded vs. lefty pitchers the last 2 years pic.twitter.com/m5lrIC0vi7

Putting Cortes in for that spot sure took a lot of guts. And Yankees fans are wishing Boone never would have tried it.
