Yankees’ Starlin Castro undergoes emergency root canal

Starlin Castro

Starlin Castro did not have a fun morning on Saturday.

The New York Yankees second baseman lost a front tooth at some point during Friday’s game against Boston and was at the dentist Saturday morning to undergo an emergency root canal.

“He has been at the dentist since 7 o’clock this morning and did not sleep much last night, so we had to go a different route,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said of Castro Saturday.

Castro did not start Saturday’s game against the Red Sox and was replaced in the lineup by Ronald Torreyes.

Castro has been one of the Yankees’ better players this season. He’s batting .304 with 12 home runs and an .806 OPS in 87 games.
