Report: Yankees trying to trade for Andrew McCutchen
The New York Yankees are trying to finalize a trade for Andrew McCutchen, according to a report.
The New York Post’s Joel Sherman reported the news on Thursday night, saying Abital Avelino would be involved in the deal.
Hear #Yankees are working to try to finalize deal with #sfgiants for McCutchen. Not done yet. Abital Avelino would be part of return for SF.

McCutchen cleared waivers this month, allowing the San Francisco Giants the ability to trade him to any team. There wasn’t much talk about him, although NBC’s Alex Pavlovic reported on Tuesday that an AL team had interest.
Sounds like there hasn’t been much trade talk around McCutchen, who cleared waivers last week. One American League team had a lot of interest early but it’s been quiet in recent days.

It seems that team was the Yankees.
McCutchen could make sense as a rental for the final month. He will be a free agent after the season and could fill a hole for the Yankees, who are without Aaron Judge. Judge has taken longer than expected to return from a wrist fracture.
McCutchen is batting .255 with a .772 OPS this season for San Francisco.
