Yoenis Cespedes acquired by Mets in trade
The New York Mets may have backed out of a trade for Carlos Gomez, but that did not keep them from getting an outfielder at the trade deadline.
The team announced Friday that they acquired Yoenis Cespedes from the Detroit Tigers. They gave up pitching prospects Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa to get him, beating out the White Sox in the process.
The good news for the Mets is that they did not have to part with pitcher Zack Wheeler in order to get Cespedes.
The Mets’ offense now gets a much needed boost. Thanks to their pitching, they are two games over .500 despite having the least productive offense in baseball. Now they have a solid middle-of-the-lineup bat.
Best of all? It has Jerry Seinfeld excited.
Oh my god. @Mets
I can't believe I can actually say this, but is it true that there is now
"A Cespedis for the rest of us"?
