Zack Greinke expected to choose between Dodgers, Giants by end of week

Zack Greinke

With one major free agent pitcher out of the way, Zack Greinke is expected to become the next domino to fall.

Reports say that Greinke is deciding between re-signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers or signing with their rival San Francisco Giants. FOX’s Ken Rosenthal reports that Greinke’s deal could come soon and that it is expected to be for five or six years.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale takes it a step further and says Greinke is expected to sign by the end of the week. He also says the Dodgers are the favorites to retain the pitcher’s services.

Greinke just turned 32, but he is coming off his best season ever. He went 19-3 with a 1.66 ERA in 222.2 innings last season, and that doesn’t even count the extra value he added by batting .224 at the plate. Greinke also only seems to be getting better with age. With the exception of his 2009 AL Cy Young season with the Royals, Greinke’s three best seasons have come in succession since signing with the Dodgers in 2013.

Greinke may be poised to top David Price’s average annual value of $31 million he just signed for.
