76ers make decisions on head coach Nick Nurse, president Daryl Morey

The Philadelphia 76ers just wrapped up their worst season in nearly a decade, but no widespread personnel changes will be coming for them.

76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey spoke with reporters on Sunday and made a big revelation. Morey said that both he and head coach Nick Nurse will be returning for another season in Philadelphia.

“Coach Nurse and myself will be back next season,” said Morey, per veteran NBA writer Marc Stein.

The 76ers wrapped up the 2024-25 season as perhaps the single most disappointing team in the entire NBA. Despite being expected to contend this year, Philadelphia ended up winning a miserable 25 games and finishing 13th in a weak Eastern Conference (a full 13 games out of the play-in tournament).

At the center of the 76ers’ struggles this season was another ugly injury situation for Joel Embiid (which reportedly led to tension between him and the front office). Tyrese Maxey and Paul George, the team’s other two stars, were also limited to a respective 52 and 41 games played due to injury (with Embiid only playing in a mere 19).

Nurse, a former NBA champion head coach, did extremely poorly this season with an aimless offense that finished 23rd in the league and an even lousier defense that was ultimately the 26th-ranked unit in the NBA. As for Morey, he definitely helped create some of the mess too, especially by ruining the franchise’s relationship with James Harden and then maxing out a similarly-aged but far worse and more injury-prone player in George instead.

Even the 76ers’ role players sounded miserable with the state of affairs for the team this season. But in spite of it all, the franchise has decided to do it all again next season with Nurse and Morey still leading the charge for them.
