Adrian Wojnarowski’s move to ESPN is reportedly happening within the next month and a half.
According to Peter Kafka of Recode, Yahoo’s star NBA reporter is set to move to ESPN ahead of the NBA Draft on June 22, and is likely to bring some of his staff from The Vertical along with him. This information falls in line with earlier reports that indicated a deal was moving closer.
Yahoo has apparently been aware that Wojnarowski is casting eyes elsewhere for a while, as sources say the company informed its purchaser Verizon as early as last fall that their star NBA reporter may end up leaving the company.
ESPN laid off many of its big-name NBA reporters as part of their recent round of corporate cuts. If Wojnarowski and some of his hand-picked Vertical partners are on the verge of joining, that probably isn’t a coincidence.
