The Philadelphia 76ers are struggling again at 0-7, but one of the franchise’s most iconic players wants fans to keep the faith.
Hall of Famer Allen Iverson visited the team on Thursday and reassured frustrated fans that they need to believe in the talent that the franchise has assembled.
“I want the fans here to be patient with those guys,” Iverson said, via Keith Pompey of Philly.com. “We’ve got the talent. It’s here. Just be patient with them. And I just want those guys to believe in each other and trust in each other. That’s it: The future is bright for us.”
Iverson also spoke to the team, telling them that if they keep working hard, they will eventually see the rewards.
“What we have to understand is I hope the message registers,” Iverson said. “That’s all I can do is hope my voice means something to guys that are younger than me, and us guys that paved the way … If only one guy got it, then I’m happy.”
Iverson’s pep talks have helped current players in the past. Philadelphia fans will hope it helps the Sixers, who were expected to take steps forward this year but continue to struggle to get into the win column.
