AMC CEO and minority owner of the Philadelphia 76ers Adam Aron really wanted to sing Joel Embiid’s praises after the Sixers star’s record-setting night.

Embiid on Monday set the 76ers’ single-game franchise scoring record with a 70-point outburst that left the rest of the NBA in disbelief.

Aron had to navigate around the touchy fact that the movie theater company that he now runs has been in shambles. AMC has tumbled to record lows in the stock market of late.

But despite the financial losses, Aron made sure to congratulate Embiid in an awkward X post that started off lamenting the current state of his company’s stock.

“So painful: 4 years after Covid the industrywide box office is still ludicrously anemic & AMC stock has slid to $4.48. Difficult to think about anything other than guiding AMC back in these challenging times. But greatness deserves praise: Sixers Joel Embiid… 70 points… 70!” wrote Aron hours after Embiid’s performance.

The roller coaster of emotions in Aron’s post arguably rivaled the last two minutes of the 2016 NBA Finals. Juxtaposing financial ruin with basketball glory formed an unexpected pick-and-roll tandem we never would have expected.

It’s hard to blame Aron, who served as CEO of the 76ers from 2011 to 2013, for so badly wanting to post about Embiid. But perhaps the Sixers star could have just gotten a solo post without any disclaimers.

After all, Embiid’s stock was at an all-time high following Monday’s 133-123 win over the San Antonio Spurs at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

The reigning NBA MVP made 24 of his 41 shot attempts, grabbed 18 rebounds, and dished out 5 assists during the 70-point performance.
