Angel Reese is not hanging her head after her team’s devastating loss in the WNBA Finals.
Reese and the Atlanta Dream lost in Saturday’s Game 7 of the Finals against the Golden State Valkyries. Despite taking a nine-point lead into the second half, the Dream collapsed late and fell by a final score of 68-63 at Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif.
After the game, Reese spoke with reporters. She emphasized a clear three-word message in her remarks — “delayed, not denied.”
“It is tough in the moment, but we’ll be back,” said Reese. “I always say, ‘Delayed, not denied.'”
During her first season with the Dream this year, Reese averaged a career-high 16.4 points to go along with 12.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. She was also named WNBA Defensive Player of the Year and posted five double-doubles over the course of Atlanta’s Finals run.
But after doing some taunting of the Valkyries earlier on in the series, Reese was humbled a little bit in Game 7 and managed just 8 points on 3/7 shooting. Still, Reese is only 24 years old and feels that she will get another chance to win it all with the Dream at some point.
