Report: Anthony Davis does not consider Celtics top target

Anthony Davis

The Boston Celtics have long been rumored to be at the forefront of any Anthony Davis pursuit, but the interest may not be completely mutual.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, the Celtics are not a “top target” in Davis’s eyes. This is down to growing uncertainty over the future of Kyrie Irving, with some less sure that he will re-sign with the organization despite pledging to do so at the start of the season. The Celtics would also be unable to pursue Davis until the offseason if and when they re-sign Irving.

According to Haynes, the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks are the two teams preparing to make offers for Davis as things stand.

The Irving tidbit is especially interesting considering where things stood early in the season, when he made a public commitment to staying with Boston, along with chatter that he and Davis had talked about playing together. That appears to be in a lot of doubt now, though.
