Ben Simmons suffers fractured bone in foot

Ben Simmons

The latest news out of Philadelphia 76ers camp will do nothing to shake the team is cursed. No. 1 overall draft pick Ben Simmons suffered a broken bone in his foot on Friday during a scrimmage.

Simmons was participating with the Sixers in a final team scrimmage on Friday and rolled his ankle, according to a post on the team’s website. An X-ray revealed a fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone of his right foot.

It’s unclear how long Simmons might be out at this point, but this is not a good way for him to start his NBA career.

Drafted first overall out of LSU, Simmons was expected to lead an up-and-coming 76ers team this season. In addition to having Simmons, the Sixers are expected to have Joel Embiid play for the first time since being drafted in 2014. Now Simmons’ status for the season opener most certainly is in question. What a bad break for Philly — literally and figuratively.
