Ben Simmons has reportedly drawn interest from multiple teams since the start of free agency, and the veteran point guard has now been linked to another surprising contender.
The Boston Celtics are among the teams that have shown interest in Simmons, according to NBA reporter Marc Stein.
Simmons has had talks with the Phoenix Suns, who are another potential suitor. Stein also mentioned the New York Knicks and Sacramento Kings as teams that could potentially explore the idea of signing Simmons.
Simmons was bought out by the Brooklyn Nets in February when he had roughly $40 million remaining on the 5-year, $177 million rookie extension he had previously signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. That contract is widely viewed as one of the worst in NBA history.
After the Nets cut their losses, Simmons signed with the Los Angeles Clippers for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. He averaged 5.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.6 assists across 51 games split between Brooklyn and L.A.
Though his NBA career has largely been a disaster, Simmons is still just 28. Signing the former No. 1 overall pick would essentially carry no risk at this point, as he is unlikely to make any significant financial demands. That is the main reason teams like the Celtics have expressed interest.
