Two-time NBA Executive of the Year Bryan Colangelo is reportedly on the short list to replace Billy King as general manager of the Nets.
League sources told ESPN.com on Wednesday that Colangelo, former GM of the Toronto Raptors and Phoenix Suns, is under “strong consideration” to take over Brooklyn’s vacant position.
The report states that the Nets are interested in Colangelo due to his previous track record in both Phoenix and Toronto, as well as his vast experience in the league, totaling over twenty years. The Nets are reportedly looking at other GM candidates as well.
This would seem to indicate that Brooklyn realized that their dream of bringing John Calipari in is unrealistic, as a GM hire would seem to rule out the possibility of a coach will full control over basketball operations. It’s no surprise given Calipari’s reported demands if an NBA team wanted to lure him away from Kentucky.
