Caleb Wilson had Chicago Bulls fans swooning with his message following a historic performance against rival Cam Boozer.
The No. 4 overall pick on Friday got the chance to match up against Boozer, the player the Memphis Grizzlies selected one pick ahead of Wilson, in an NBA Summer League clash at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev.
Wilson went off for 35 points in the 97-96 loss to the Grizzlies, breaking the record for most points scored in an NBA Summer League debut. But when asked to comment on his performance after the game, Wilson could only think about the game’s result.
“We lost,” Wilson said with a stern look on his face.
“That’s my goal. To come here and win. Of course, it’s cool [to break the record]. But somebody’s going to break it one day, like they always do. I’m happy that I got the record, and I’m ready to move on to what’s next. We’ve got another game coming up soon.”
Told that his 35 points set an unofficial NBA Summer League record for most points in a debut, Caleb Wilson said “we lost.”

Wilson caught fire from distance, connecting on 7 three-pointers en route to his record-setting 35 points. He shot 12/21 from the field with 5 rebounds. The North Carolina alum also showed his immense two-way potential with 2 steals and 3 blocks.
Boozer wasn’t bad, either. The Duke product poured in 23 points on 7/12 shooting with 6 rebounds and 4 assists, living up to his billing as a rock-solid performer.
The two power forwards will forever be linked due to their college backgrounds and draft slot. Friday’s contest may have been a preview of what’s to come.
