Carmelo Anthony details how he hit ‘rock bottom’ before joining Blazers
Carmelo Anthony’s NBA career looked like it was over before the Portland Trail Blazers essentially picked him off the scrap heap, and it sounds like he was struggling a lot mentally during that time.
Anthony told The Uninterrupted’s “WRTS: After Party” that he hit “rock bottom” after his failed stint with the Houston Rockets.
“I don’t think nobody will understand what I went through emotionally to get through and to be where I’m at today,” Anthony said, via Howie Kussoy of the New York Post. “I’m talking about doubting myself. I’m talking about mentally wanting to give up.
“I hit rock bottom emotionally, and I had to build myself back up—basically by myself—to get here where I’m at today to be able to tell this story.”
Anthony has said previously that he was already mentally preparing for retirement before the Blazers came in with their offer. Now he’s averaging 15.3 points per game and has proven that he has a role in the NBA beyond this season. It sounds like he went through quite a bit to get back to this point.
