Report: Cavaliers will not trade Brooklyn pick for short-term help

LeBron James Cavs

The Cleveland Cavaliers are desperately seeking help ahead of the NBA trade deadline, but they’re not going to do something reckless.

Some talk has centered around the Brooklyn Nets’ 2018 first-round draft pick the Cavaliers got in the Kyrie Irving trade. The pick is going to be in the lottery, but according to Terry Pluto of cleveland.com, it’s not completely off-limits.

However, the Cavaliers won’t trade the pick for short-term help, such as impending free agent DeAndre Jordan. Instead, they would seek a younger player who would be with the team for several years.

Instead, Cleveland would be more willing to move their own first-round selection in the right deal.

The Cavaliers have been linked to all sorts of players in the trade market in the last month. It doesn’t sound like any of those targets would be nearly enough to pry that valuable Brooklyn pick away from Cleveland.
