The Cleveland Cavaliers are doing everything they can to convince LeBron James to return to the place where he began his NBA career. In addition to pulling off a three-team trade to create enough salary cap space to sign LeBron, the Cavs are also reportedly pursuing Ray Allen.
Earlier this week, word surfaced that Cleveland would likely look to add shooters if it is successful in signing James. Shortly after the Cavs traded Jack on Wednesday, Chris Broussard reported that they are now pursuing Ray Allen.
Allen has previously stated that he would like to return for a 19th NBA season if he can contend for a championship. After spending the last several seasons playing alongside LeBron, it would make sense that he would follow him wherever he goes next season. If the Heat can successfully convince LeBron to come back, Allen will likely stay in Miami. If the Cavs win out, the sharpshooter will probably head to Cleveland.
While we’re not saying LeBron is in any way responsible for all the speculation that has built about him returning to Cleveland, it’s amazing how quickly this entire thing has developed. If LeBron ultimately decides to stay in Miami, he’ll be breaking the hearts of Cavs fans all over again. I can’t imagine how much he would be hated after that even if it isn’t his fault.
